As players ourselves e and the first ever Roller Derby specialty shop with over 20 years' experience, we are picky what we stand behind and suggest for Roller Derby players. We have checked out other fresh meat packages offered online and decided rather than skimp on the quality of gear in package to keep price down, we could offer a discounted bundle while still offering skates and gear specifically designed to hold up to the rigors of roller derby. Many packages we have looked at come with cheap wheels that will need to be replaced pretty quickly. Replacement derby wheels range from $70 to over $100 so we want to offer a skate that already includes quality wheels without have to spend additional money. Strong safety gear is essential to keep you safe and skating for years to come. Many pad packs we see are not strong enough for derby and helmets for Roller Derby need to be CPSU certified. For that reason, we sell our packages with 187 Killer Pads and S1 certified helmets. Mouth guards are another important safety measure, and our packages come with the strong and insured SISU mouthguard . We have put together two packages for rookie skaters with gear we can stand behind that won't require you to purchase additional gear within a month or so, adding up to more than purchasing the quality gear the first time. We do have other skates and gear available and are happy to answer any questions but below are our most popular and suggested packages.
Both packages come with 187 Killer pad six pack, S1 lifer helmet of your choice of solid colors and a SISU mouth guard.
Skates are either the Riedell R3 Derby Plus skate or the Sure Grip Rebel skate.
The Riedell R3 Derby Plus version comes with upgraded Sonar wheels, better for Derby, protected toe guard and a skate tool. Starting with stock R3 boot, The boot is attached to a PowerDyne Thrust nylon plate for a firm base, and the skate is finished off with Abec 5 precision bearings and Radar Pop wheels that provide good grip and speed on all surface hardnesses and has excellent durability. This skate does run little narrow, so we recommend our next package with The Rebel skate for wider feet.
Riedell R3 Derby Skates Feature:
The Sure-Grip Rebel skate is one of our best-selling derby starter skates. Also available with upgraded, stronger avanti aluminum plate recommended for skaters over 180lbs.
The Rebel black boot is a 100% leather boot with elastic tongue stays to make sure the tongue stays right where it is supposed to be. The inside of the boot has the just right amount of padding to keep your foot comfortable and not lose an ounce of durability. Sure-Grip Probe plates are unique with their reversed king pin, then they make sure even the stopping is seamless with an adjustable toe stop.The Sure-Grip Fugitive wheels are 62mm x 44 mm diameter and 92A hardness and come with the ABEC-7 bearings keep your wheels rolling smooth and fast.
These skates are men's sizing. Women should order 1.5 to 2 sizes down from women's shoe size. Example, If you wear a women's sz 7.5 or 8 shoe, you would order a sz 6 skate.
